The Death of Dracula #1 [2010] by Victor Gischler | Giuseppe Camuncoli

THE DEATH OF DRACULA #1

The single-issue story is narrated by the Janus the son of Dracula who gathers with the other vampire sects on a deserted Greek island after a century. Various vampire sects arrive on the island including:

Anchorite – Charniputra – Claw – Krieger – Moksha

Mystikos – Nosferatu – Purebloods – Siren - Trykes

The last to arrive is his little brother Xarus accompanied by Alyssa of the Siren sect. The heads of each sect meet at the big boys table with Dracula as the chairman discussing the problems of the ever exploding human population.

Dracula offers his short opinion before being stabbed by his youngest son Xarus. Mayhem ensues and conflicts arise as some of the sects find the coup not honorable especially the two major vampire sects: Krieger and Claw.

Xarus asks to reconvene within 24 hours however his older brother Janus wishes to discuss the matter immediately and personally. Xarus tries to win his brother’s favor by showing Janus technology that will allow them to walk in the sunlight. Xarus has already armed the Nosferatu and the Charniputra vampires with the light-bending technology with the intention of attacking the sleeping Krieger sect.

Janus leaves and visits the Claw sect to persuades them to join his side. The 24 hour deadline is up and Janus opposes Xarus with the help of the Claw sect. However the Claw sect was secretly on Xarus side all along. Alyssa appears and shows support for Xarus with the Siren sect. She secretly slips Janus the light-bending technology before the sun rises and Janus's allies perishes. Janus escapes while Xarus is accepted as the new lord of the vampires.

The main purpose of this book was to organize the vampire race within the Marvel Universe. This issue is considered one step that will shape the Marvel universe with the upcoming X-Men #1 being the next step much like the prior Marvel events. Looking forward to the developments of various characters and series as the subplot of the vampires progress forward.
