Devil Comics Review | DC Universe: Rebirth #1 [2016]
Hype Following
2011’s New 52, DC Comics revitalizes the comic industry with Rebirth and bring
legacy back to their characters. The one-shot promises a death of a character
and the return of three characters to the DC Universe. DC is celebrating the
event by releasing a limited edition midnight cover on the day of its release.
The book is 80 pages and for only $2.99 and the final page promises to be
explosive.
Rehash The DC Universe Rebirth special is a continuation from the events of the Darkseid War and the Final Days of Superman story arcs which their finales were both released on the same day. During the Darkseid War, three versions of the Joker were revealed as well as Wonder Woman having a twin brotherwhile the Final Days of Superman saw the death of the New 52 Superman. The issue begins with the return of the Pre-Flashpoint Wally West attempting to reach out to Batman who has forgotten him in the first chapter Lost

The issue begins with the return of the Pre-Flashpoint Wally West attempting to reach out to Batman who has forgotten him in the first chapter Lost
The
second chapter Legacy explores the Justice Society of America, Legion of
Super-Heroes, the Microverse and the death of Pandora who brought the New 52
together. She was heavily marketed and her appearance was in every New 52 first
issue in 2011. Her death will bring cheers for DC fans.
The
third chapter Love features the aftermath of the Final Days of Superman where heroes like Green Arrow, Superman, and
Aquaman are reconnecting their past loves including Wally West and Linda Park.
The
fourth chapter Life sees Wally West and the New 52 version who are revealed to
be cousins. Wally meets the New 52 Flash to say goodbye and to let him know
someone has infected history to make people forget. Barry remembers Wally and
brings him back while remembering the past. The finale reveals they are being
watched and they are the ones who are behind the missing heroes, history, and
legacies: Alan Moore’s Watchmen.
Feedback Writer Geoff Johns
begins the story by relating to the readers on what it is like to have read the
New 52 for the past five years where forgotten heroes, legacies, and history
which created a foundation of great stories were all erased. It was been
revealed the stories within the Rebirth titles will build to an event in August
2018. DC fans would return to the company after reading this issue. It brings
an optimistic and hopeful DC Universe back as well as preparing them for the
incorporation of the Watchmen universe in 2018.

Devil Comics Review | Superman [2016] The Final Days of Superman

Rehash The issue begins with Superman finding out he is dying after the events of the Darkseid War, Savage Dawn, and JLA. However Superman continues to save lives as he grows sicker. He meets his childhood sweetheart Lana Lang and Lois Lane to reveal his final days as Superman.
Superman asks Batman to find Supergirl who is in National City attempting to reboot her powers with the help of Cameron Chase and the DEO. Superman reveals to both of them that he is dying and these will be his final days. Superman and Batman deal with Chinese Zodiac Dragons and someone claiming to be Clark Kent causes havoc at the Daily Planet. Later Superman hands Supergirl the keys to the Fortress of Solitude as Wonder Woman arrives.
Both Superman and Wonder Woman head to ARGUS where they find a fake Superman powered by his solar flare he used on Ulysses. Superman speaks with Ulysses as the fake Superman breaks out causing power failures which Ulysses uses to break free. Steve Trevor restores power but the fake Superman escapes. Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman track him to China where they face the Great Ten. After their battle, they are taken to Doctor Omen who made a Super-Man of her own. Meanwhile the Solar Superman visits Lois Lane and the New 52 Superman meets the Pre-Flashpoint Superman. We discover the Solar Superman is a prisoner named Denny Swan. The New 52 Superman sacrifices himself to save his friends paving the way for the Post-Crisis Superman to assume the role.
Feedback The title is called the Final Days of Superman which seems to mirror Alan Moore’s Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow. We know the Pre-Flashpoint Superman will be the prime Superman after Rebirth however what we do not know is the final fate of the New 52 Superman. He may die at the end of Super League, DC Universe: Rebirth, or he may lose his powers completely and remain as a powerless Clark Kent. Writer Peter Tomasi is taking over Superman and it seems since the New 52 began that the franchise is in good hands. He took what has happened to the New 52 Superman and brought all those stories forward to create a compelling character within him.

Review | Superman - Wonder Woman: Dark Truth [2015] Peter J. Tomasi
Superman/Wonder
Woman #21
continues the Truth stories with Lana Lang and Steel missing in Smallville.
Both Superman and Wonder Woman attempt to find them however someone has taken
the Kent home, barn, and the buried bodies. As they attempt to process what
happened, the Suicide Squad arrives. The
second issue of Dark Truth sees both
Superman and Wonder Woman take on the Suicide Squad. Following the battle
Superman forces his way into the White House to meet with the President of the
United States. The last two issues have been short on plot and the mysteries of
the disappearance of the Kent farm house and graves are barely touched.
After arriving at the White House, Superman is greeted by Steve Trevor of ARGUS and later by President Obama in Superman/Wonder Woman #20. It is revealed that the US Government kidnapped Superman’s friends and coworkers to search for answers. The Parasite attacks however he was deployed prematurely by the Chief of Staff. Trevor gives the location of Superman’s friends while Wonder Woman rescues Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Lana Lang, Steel, Cat Grant, and Lois Lane from captivity and interrogates them regarding Clark Kent’s secret identity. Each reveal their intentions leavingLois
Lane to reveal hers.

Superman/Wonder
Woman #21 Wonder Woman interrogates Lois as Superman arrives to free the Smallville
residents. Now Superman trusts neither Wonder Woman nor Lois as Mr. Bend is
fired by POTUS who later meets with Wrath from Action Comics and Vandal Savage from Batman/Superman. The events of Superman from the sister titles are
slowly coming together as the puzzle and the bigger picture of where the
Superman titles are heading is leading to the 50th issues of the New 52.

Superman/Wonder Woman #22 Superman attempts to travel into the sun to regain his powers however Wonder Woman stops him. Later Superman and Wonder Woman interrupts a transport ship to Belle Reve and breaks the Parasite out to gain information.
Superman/Wonder Woman #23 Wonder Woman and Superman use the Parasite to track down an energy source. Vandal Savage’s son is planning on killing his father with Firestorm and all the criminals from Steel’s facility but first he plans on using them on Superman and Wonder Woman. During the battle Wonder Woman is captured and used against Superman.
Superman/Wonder Woman #24 Vandal Savage’s son uses a suit to harvest the powers of Firestorm and Wonder Woman to defeat his father. Superman gets the upper hand and defeats him with the Parasite. Vandal Savage’s son is imprisoned and he is later killed by his father and the Parasite is taken back to Bell Reve Prison. Overall
the story arc is a waste as it was just a standalone story which will not have
any long term effects between the Superman
and Vandal Savage conflict.

Review | Batman: Dark Knight III: The Master Race [2016] Frank Miller

We
also see Lara the daughter of Superman and Wonder Woman visit the Fortress
of Solitude to visit her father who is imprisoned in ice. She discovers the
city of Kandor is calling out for help. Later in the mini comic Lara brings the city to Atom claiming the citizens of Kandor want to return to their
original size. We
also discover Lara has a brother named Jonathan who is named after the adopted
father of Clark Kent.
Overall the story is intriguing and the Master Race could be the Kryptonians from Kandor. Superman will return within the series to aid Batman with the Master Race whoever they may turn out to be. The only complaint is that the Dark Knight: Master Race comes in two forms the first includes a mini comic costing $48 USD for the entire series. The other is an oversized edition retailing $104 USD for the entire set. The best form would be the trade retailing at $30 USD which is cheaper and practical than the individual and oversized issues but you will have to wait until September of 2016.

DC Comics Convergence [2015] by Jeff King | Carlo Pagulayan | Stephen Segovia
Convergence is a two-month epic
consisting of nine issues while the regular DC titles are placed on hiatus. The
series spins out of New 52: Futures End
and Earth 2: World’s End. The
villains are Brainiac who has been collecting multiverses and a new one named Telos
which will be introduced within the series.

Convergence #1 begins as solicited a few months ago with the Earth 2 heroes arriving and Telos releases the domes of the different worlds from across the DC Multiverse to fight for their survival. The book and the ties-ins are more nostalgia than anything more by bringing back characters and events from the 70s, 80’s, and 90s together. Too many characters with very little story and the book reminds me of Countdown: Arena in 2007 which has a similar premise.

Convergence #2 begins as the heroes of Earth 2 free themselves and fight back against Telos. Green Lantern Alan Scott discovers Telos is afraid of something beneath the planet. Meanwhile Thomas Wayne and Richard Grayson head towards another Gotham where they meet Bruce Wayne. The Bat symbol on Bruce Wayne changes form panel-to-panel which makes it annoying as it shows the artists rushed through this weekly series. The finale sees the heroes meet Deimos who claims he can get them off the planet.
Convergence
#3 Telos heads to
the City of Kandor
the first city Brainiac took. It’s residents along with Nightwing and Firebird oppose
Telos which leads them to their fates. Thomas Wayne and Richard Grayson take on
the Pre-Flashpoint Batman villains but Wayne
sacrifices himself as the Joker arrives and shoots Grayson. Telos arrives in
time and kills the Joker and asks Grayson where are the Earth 2 heroes. Meanwhile
Deimos takes the Earth 2 heroes below the planet into another displaced reality Skartaris.
Convergence #4 The Earth 2 heroes travel through Skartaris to get to the castle where the Warlord has imprisoned the Time Masters consisting on Monarch, Extant, Hourmen, as well as the Time Trapper. Deimos is a high priest who wanted Skartaris for years and takes the power of the Time Masters. Deimos tells Brainiac he can free from his imprisonment from the events in New 52 Futures End.
Convergence #5 Demios uses the powers of the Time Masters to reveal to Telos who he is. Brainiac used Telos in exchange for saving his family. The Earth 2 heroes attack Demios however the castle collapses so they travel to gather the rest of the heroes from the other cities as Richard Grayson accepts his destiny as Batman. Demios arrives at Brainiac’s occupation chamber and announces to the heroes of the cities that there is no longer as reason to fight since Brainiac is banished and he will protect them for a price.

#6 begins in the
New 52 Universe as a arrival of a new planet draws the attention of Superman,
the Red Lanterns, Darkseid, the Monitor as well as the Oracle. Deimos wants
loyalty otherwise he will destroy cities within the hour. The heroes of the
various cities unite against Deimos. Grayson speaks to Telos who recently found
out the truth about himself and asks him to join the heroes to save the world
from Deimos. As the heroes gather, Deimos has gathered his own army of villains
to kill them all.
Convergence #7 in the New 52 the Justice League and Stormwatch gather with Oracle as war erupts on the world of Telos. Deimos and Telos battle each other as both the heroes and villains discovers Deimos wants all of them to die so he can use their energies to recreate the world. Hal Jordan as Parallax finally destroys Deimos however the power of the Time Masters are released into the New 52 Universe and reality is coming apart.

as reality comes apart Booster Gold and Wave Rider arrives and releases
Brainiac who gives us his origin. He is a survivor of the multiverse from
Crisis to Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis, 52, and Flashpoint. Brainiac plans on
sending everyone home and resetting the multiverse however something is
blocking him, the first Crisis. Brainiac send Superman with Lois and their
daughter, Parallax, Flash, and Supergirl to prevent the collapse of the
multiverse. The multiverse is saved and Brainiac returns to Earth-0 as the
heroes of Earth 2 remain on the world of Telos as it is being destroyed.
However with Brainiac and Telos gone their ties to the world is severed. The
world of Telos becomes the new Earth 2 and it returns back to its universe.
Green Lantern uses his ring to signal the refugees back to the new Earth 2.

E32: Green Lantern: New Guardians #37 | Justice League #37 | Wonder Woman #37 Reviews [Devil Comics Entertainment]
Green Lantern: New Guardians #37 opens with Metron giving Kyle and Carol a
Motherbox to get off of Old Genesis. They reunite with John Stewart and Saint
Walker on New Genesis. Together they battle Highfather to obtain the White Lantern
Ring which no longer works. Now Highfather disposes them using the Life
Equation. Each issue of GodHead has been a slow pace of putting all the pieces
together as it leads to the final issue where all will be revealed.
Justice League #37 continues with Batman and Superman tracking down Patient Zero of the
Amazo Virus. They are quickly joined by Wonder Woman who helps take Patient
Zero down so Batman can get a sample of his blood. However he is knocked out by
Patient Zero and Batman becomes exposed to the Amazo Virus. Meanwhile Lex
Luthor is targeted by another assassin: Bullet.
Wonder Woman #37 begins with the Amazons being attacked by mechanical eagles as Wonder Woman is reminded of her neglected duties to the Amazons. Meanwhile Donna Troy enters into the New 52 Universe. Writer Meredith Finch ignores the event of last issue including the catastrophic event inThailand and the destroyed clay statue
of Wonder Woman’s mother. It leads to more questions as the issues progresses
and ignores the events of the previous issue. It’s difficult to keep up with
the story when it is so fragmented. Imagine reading various social media sites
just to get one story. That’s what reading Wonder Woman was like by writer
Meredith Finch. If this was the 90s then the great art could have saved the bad
writing.

E19: Green Lantern: New Guardians #36 GodHead | Justice League #36 | Wonder Woman #36 Reviews [Devil Comics Entertainment]

Green Lantern: New
Guardians #36 begins
as Highfather takes both Kyle and Carol to New Genesis where he separates the
White Lantern ring from Kyle. Highfather plans on using the Life Equation to
defeat Darkseid and remake the universe. Carol attacks using all of her power
within her ring. Both Kyle and Carol are dumped on Old Genesis without the use
of their rings. Meanwhile Highfather tests his Life Equation to make citizens
on another planet into warriors.
In Justice League #36 the Amazo Virus is
released and Metropolis is evacuated. Both Batman and Superman stop and contain
the remaining citizens of Metropolis who has developed powers due to the Amazo
Virus. Lex Luthor created the virus from the Amazo android who can mimic
Metahuman powers. The virus was released due to someone targeting Luthor and
that person still wants him dead. Luthor can cure the virus however he needs
Patient Zero who runs into Batman and Superman. The key highlight of this issue
is Wonder Woman who seems to be looking similar to her counterpart in the
upcoming movie Batman V Superman: Dawn
of Justice.
Wonder Woman #36 is the first issue by the David Finch and his wife Meredith. A catastrophic environmental event occurs in Thailand without any explanation. Swamp Thing is in Thailand and Wonder Woman attacks him fearing he is responsible. Wonder Woman returns to Paradise Island where she is Queen of the Amazons only to find the clay statue of her mother destroyed. This issue catches up on readers from the past 35 issues however it’s a quick read. The art is fantastic however the plotting is awful as nothing has happened warranting to buy the next issue.
