Batman #701 [2010] by Grant Morrison

BATMAN #701
“IF IT WAS THIS HARD FOR ME, IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM.”
This two-part issue bridges the gap between Batman R.I.P and Final Crisis. Bruce Wayne is swimming under Gotham Harbor following the battle with the Black Glove and Doctor Hurt. Giving us a summary of what has happened such as being poisoned, deceived, buried alive, and he has been surviving every minute of his life. Bruce walks back to Wayne Manor and being humorous with Alfred realizing that he has come too close to disaster of never returning home alive. Alfred reminds him that the Black Glove has put him in an elaborate trap and Bruce got out. A nice foreshadowing of what is to come in Final Crisis when he faces with Darkseid and his Omega Beams.

Grant Morrison’s style of storytelling is never linear and he always plans out till the very end without missing any gaps. Great internal dialogue of Bruce Wayne and letting us know who he is and how he thinks. We get viewpoints on how Bruce feels about his circumstances, Doctor Hurt, Jezebel Jet, and Superman. Looking forward to the Return of Bruce Wayne storyline and how all pieces of the puzzle are coming into place for the one true Batman to return.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – 5 OUT OF 5
