Scarlet #1 [2010] by Brian Michael Bendis & Alex Maleev

SCARLET #1
Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev reteam-up for their first creator-owned venture together giving us a gritty look of life of Scarlet who will give us a new American Revolution. A young Portland girl along with her boyfriend becomes the victims of a very corrupt society. Her innocent boyfriend is killed by a corrupt cop and labeled as a teen drug dealer in the press. Scarlet finds the courage to realize the world is broke and fights back. Bendis supplies his unforgettable dialogue and storytelling by having Scarlet break the fourth wall while Maleev provides us with his art that we have all come to expect. I felt I really got to understand her pain of rejection and unfairness in the world she lives in. Now she is going to be proactive and do something about it. Looking forward to how both Bendis and Maleev carry their creation forward into the next issue.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – 5 OUT OF 5
