Superman: The Last Family of Krypton #1 [2010]

SUPERMAN: THE LAST FAMILY OF KRYPTON #1
PART ONE
Jor-EL and Lara Lor-Van arrive on Earth with their son Kal-EL. The parents prove their arrival is peaceful through their good deeds. Setting up their home in the city of Metropolis may not be the best place for their son due to their celebrity status. They decide it is best if they place their son under surrogate parents with Jonathan and Martha Kent.

PART TWO
Jor-EL builds a company in Metropolis called Jorcorp, while the ancient religion of Rao is brought forth by Lara Lor-Van. Jor-EL expresses distaste for his son living in Smallville especially when Kal-EL has no desire to connect with his Kryptonian heritage. Lex Luthor steals the attention of Jor-EL and starts his career at Jorcorp while Kal-EL looks on between their interactions with envy.

Writer Cary Bates brings the parents of Superman under the celebrity status of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in this Elseworlds tale. He copies dialogue from the Richard Donner Superman films which brings memories of the Superman of the 1980s. We get clues that their ship is called B so their maybe a possibility of Brainiac within this series. Bates also gives the Guardians of the Universe a brief cameo appearance. Artist Renato Arlem seems to be his imitation of a poor Doug Mahnke however the art can be overlooked because the story structure and propose of the story is very strong.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – 5 OUT OF 5
