Doctor Octopus assembles old and new Spider-Man villains including Electro, Hammerhead, Mr. Negative, Mysterio, Morbius, Sandman, and the Spot to track and capture Lily who became the Menace after taking the Goblin formula. However what Doc Ock really wants is the offspring of Norman Osborn and Lily Hollister.
Mark Waid (Captain America) brings the Brand New Day era of Spider-Man to a close with Origin of the Species. Waid stated that both Spider-Man and Peter Parker are worn out as we approach the end of Brand New Day however this is his chance at redemption. Many surprises will come to pass throughout this story.
