SHIELD #4 [2010] by Jonathan Hickman

S.H.I.E.L.D #4
THE MADNESS, THE STAR CHILD, and THE CELESTIAL MADONNA
The Shield organization protects humanity from the known and unknown through a process of calling individuals to face the upcoming threats. In the 1950s, Leonid has answered the call and taken to the Immortal City home of the High Council of Shield. His first teacher was the Immortal Sir Isaac Newton however Newton has been hiding skeletons in the closet and now Leonid’s new instructor has come to challenge the reign of Newton.

114 AD – A Celestial is convinced to head towards the sun to give birth to a star child
1652 – Newton imprisons the Architect of the Revelation: Nostradamus
1956 – Leonardo Da Vinci heads towards the sun to retrieve the star child

Jonathan Hickman has seeded his stories with hints and foreshadowing as revelations are slowly revealing themselves. His story is helped with the first pages summaries setting the stage for each issue. The various times these stories take place reveal some aspects of the story to come. I honestly want to go back and reread these past issues to see whether all the pieces fit however still more pieces are to come. Overall this is turning out to be a complex story worthy of Marvel Comics.
