THE TRANSFORMERS: DEATH OF OPTIMUS PRIME
IDW Publishing took the franchise in 2005 after Dreamwave Productions went bankrupt and built its continuity to a fever pitch towards 2012 where two titles will be launched simultaneously Transformers: Robots in Disguise and Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye. The main objective is to converge the multiple one-shots, limited series, and story into a clean slate where new stories would be told with previous backlogged history. The over storyline of Chaos wasn’t as powerful as one would believe. It probably looked good on paper however the execution was awful because it lacked the connective tissue to hold the bi-weekly releases together. However this one shot is very different as it brings the conclusion of the previous plot threads towards its finale outcome.
Following the conclusion of Chaos, Optimus Prime plunged the Creation Matrix in the heart of Cybertron Vector Sigma. Optimus Prime is missing for three weeks and witnesses the arrival of Transformers who do not have any affiliation with the Autobots nor Decepticons back to Cybertron. These Transformers see Optimus Prime as the symbol of war for four million years. Disheartened by the revelation Optimus Prime has decided to leave Cybertron forever. The book is entitled the The Death of Optimus Prime which is a very appropriate title as the promises were delivered and Optimus Prime ceases to exist but Orion Pax is reborn.
