Review: Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Shattered Empire [2015] Greg Rucka

Taking place following the events of Return of the Jedi, the Rebels won the battle however the war is far from over. The New Republic is hunting for hotspots for Imperial activity after the demise of Emperor Palpatine and Vader. Emperor Palpatine is a martyr and the First Order emerged in his name as a New Republic formed and a treaty formed with the Imperials to stay within their borders. Lieutenant Shara Bey and her husband Sergeant Dameron join Han Solo and Chewbacca take on an Imperial holdout on the far side of the moon.


The series focuses on the parents of Poe Dameron who played a part in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi. The Emperor's final order is Operation: Cinder which is the destruction of the Planet Naboo his own homeworld. However both Shara and Leia used Naboo’s starfighters to defend the planet until Lando and the Rebels arrive and save the day. 

Later Luke Skywalker teams up with Shara to infiltrate an Imperial base to retrieve something the Emperor took long ago from Coruscant. The items are two trees which grew at the heart of the Jedi Temple containing the Force. Luke and Shara retrieve the trees and escape from the Imperial base and head home. Luke gives one of the trees to Shara to planet with her husband. Writer Greg Rucka gave a quiet story following Return of the Jedi however gives insight into the parents of Poe Dameron.
