WHO OR WHAT IS DEREK MORGAN?

Ultimate X takes place after Ultimatum, the world is recovering after the destruction brought forth by Magneto. Wolverine fought till the end and dies, the Fantastic Four has disbanded, and mutants are hunted as criminals: turn yourself in or be shot on sight.

Jimmy Hudson is revealed that he is Wolverine’s son with bone claws. However the bone claws were covered over by metal like Colossus. We are only given two clues to who is Jimmy’s real mother: She is blonde and can manipulate metal through her body.

Jean Grey has gone into hiding as Karen Grant. She was tracked down by the Mystique and Sabretooth and it is also revealed that a new leader rose for the Brotherhood after Magneto fell in Ultimatum. Jimmy Hudson tracks her down and introduces himself by revealing that she knew his father: Wolverine.

Derek Morgan is the mysterious winged vigilante over the streets of Chicago. He can be able to retract his wings unlike Warren Worthington’s Angel. Karen Grant and Jimmy Hudson track him down and offer him a choice on how to live his life. Derek chooses to join them on an unknown journey towards Southern California.

One of Jeph Loeb’s best works in years as he introduces ‘new’ characters to the Ultimate Universe. Breathtaking artwork and details by Arthur Adams who I always loved whenever he did X-Men stories from Longshot limited series to the annuals. This series is definitely worth checking out with the kick-ass writing and artwork.
