The origin of the Reverse-Flash is revealed as the story begins in the 25th century and we are made aware that he is changing his history to suit himself. Getting rid of his brother so he can become an only child, becoming the Professor at the Flash Museum, murdering his parents so he can concentrate on the Speed Force, shaping his love life, and becoming the Flash of the 25th Century all shows his ability to change history. Eobard Thawne realizes that he cannot erase the Flash from history because without the Speed Force the Negative Speed Force will not exist. Now he explores the other powers besides speed that the Negative Speed Force provides.
