Devil Comics Review | Harley Quinn and the Suicide Squad April Fool’s Special #1

Hype
Both writer Rob Williams and artist Jim Lee unite for this special before they debut their Suicide Squad Rebirth series this fall. This issue is a preview of what to expect from the upcoming duo as they take on the Suicide Squad following the film this August.

Rehash
Harley Quinn gets a folder which encourages her to become a doctor again and forming Evil Anonymous which is a super-villain therapy group. She decides to help Man-Bat which does not go well before the issue dives into a dream sequence imagining Harley Quinn helping super-villains get in touch with their feelings. Later she is stopped by the Justice League and she sees them as bullies and the bad guys. Harley wakes up and we discover Amanda Waller has been pulling her strings so she will join her Suicide Squad to take down the superheroes.

Feedback
The issue is a great setup on what will become of the series after Rebirth under the direction of Rob Williams. This issue is an April Fools’ Special has Harley Quinn is manipulated by Amanda Waller. Artist Jim Lee was brought onto the series to highlight the franchise and provide it a strong foundation before he eventually moves on to another series. Overall this is a great issue for a five dollar book.
