Batman
deals with the Riddler bringing darkness to the city as well as dealing with
Dr. Death. We find out that Dr. Death’s son died while searching for Bruce
Wayne and the Riddler floods Gotham . Bruce
Wayne wakes up during Zero Year and the Riddler’s rule of get smart or die as
he has already took over the city. We see the first time both James Gordon and
Batman working together. The Riddler challenges people to tell a riddle and if
they win then he sets Gotham free. Batman
challenges him while Lucius Fox and Gordon track down the Riddler. Batman
finally tracks down the Riddler however he traps him instead.
The Zero Year began with issue #21 and ran till #33 along with the Forever Evil tie-ins. Some of the Zero Year books were $4.99 a piece including issue #25, #29, and #33 while issue #24 was $6.99. The price jumps did not justify the story. Basically the Riddler takes over the city and Batman defeats him. That is the premise of Zero Year and the rest of whatever writer Scott Snyder wanted to communicate is lost.
