One thousand years ago, King Grayskull wins the Horde War however he is betrayed by his own people and Eternia burns due to a prophecy. In the present Adam visits his sister Adora who is on the run due to her actions as Despara. He tells her their father Randor was slained by an ancient evil. Now both Adam and Adora travel to Anwat-Gar to find answers after freeing Eternians imprisoned by Hordak. 

Adora sees the ghost of King Grayskull while He-Man faces Tri-Klops who has made a deal with the Gar for the death of He-Man. However Adora arrives and kills He-Man with her sword as King Grayskull was killed a thousand years ago. After nearly killing his brother Adam, Adora discovers the existence of the Sword of Protection which will be able to save He-Man. The series lays the groundwork for the upcoming limited series He-Man: Eternity War in December.

The Origin of She-Ra continues in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Adora fights for the Sword of Protection and becomes She-Ra. We also learn the woman who murdered King Grayskull is the father of Skeletor. Adora arrives in time to save her brother Adam and together they defeat the Fright Zone. Meanwhile at Castle Grayskull, Hodrak will use the blood of He-Man to free himself from his prison and conquer Eternia.
