Devil Comics Review | Netflix Iron Fist [2017]

Danny Rand returns after 15 years however faces Ward and Joy Meachum who believe their childhood friend is dead. Their father Harold Meachum is secretly alive and works with his son Ward. Danny is taken to a mental health institution however escapes using his Iron Fist. The Iron Fist is the only weapon to destroy the Hand. The Meachum brings Danny Rand the majority shareholder into the company. Danny discovers Harold Meachum was resurrected by the Hand. In exchange for his resurrection Harold needs to follow the instructions of the Hand.

Joy Meachum played by Jessica Stroup looks too much like Karen Page who is played by Deborah Ann Woll. This is a much different series than the past ones involving Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. The last three had an identity to the characters who knew their pasts so the audience knew who their essence were. Daredevil got his powers and adapted them as a lawyer and a superhero. Jessica Jones had superhuman strength and applied them as an investigator. Luke Cage has unbreakable skin and took down bullies. We don’t know whether the series is about Danny Rand or Iron Fist because the enemies were not defined well. I didn’t know whether he was fighting the Meachums, Madame Gao, or the Hand. He was fighting and teaming up with each and every one of them which made for weak villains.

A lawsuit between Danny Rand and Meachum begins and ends within less than an episode. It was pointless to start it in the first place. Danny Rand’s relationship with Colleen Wing was predictable from the start. He lost his celibacy to her. If he kept it then it would have reinforced the Iron Fist identity. The only woman security guard fought Colleen Wing in China. Madame Gao’s powers was defined and taken away. The writing was inconsistent and awful with the execution.
