Weekly Roundup | Comics Distribution and Venom in 2018

Comic Market News A new west coast comic distributor called Emerald Comics Distribution will be competing with east coast Diamond Comic Distributors beginning as a regional distributor. Their basis for competition is on their business model. Since Diamond has a monopoly, it can take a cut from wholesale sales, while Emerald is based on a unspecified flat monthly service fee.

Much like in the movie Founder where Ray Kroc was a franchising agent at McDonald's before becoming the owner. As a franchising agent he was a customer for the McDonald's brothers before becoming their competition and taking them over. This is similar to what has happened with comics distribution. Competition rises due to new business models arising to replace older ones.

While Venom hits its 150 issue milestone in May, Sony has plans for Venom to arrive in theaters on October 5th, 2018. Currently Tom Holland the actor playing Spider-Man is filming both Avengers Infinity War and its sequel back-to-back. So it is highly unlikely he would appear in the Venom film however it won't be a Venom film without Spider-Man. Sony is also planning a Sinister Six film. Both Venom and Sinister Six will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
