X-MEN: FIRST TO LAST PREMIERE HARDCOVER
The island of Utopia is under attack by a group called the Neo as Scott Summers receives memories of Jean Grey asking him to remember the beings known as the Evolutionaries. They have returned and destroyed the entire species of the advanced mutant race of Neo. The Evolutionaries are here to ensure mutants survive by destroying humanity.
Back in the past, the X-Men take on both the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and a Sentinel before heading back to Xavier’s just as the Evolutionaries arrive. The Evolutionaries believed Professor Xavier did not speak for all of mutantkind so they turned to Magneto. They ask Magneto to gather the mutant race however he needs the help of Emma Frost.
The Evolutionaries were pre-homo sapiens who were evolved by the Eternals to protect the each race meant to emerge 2.7 million years ago. 200,000 years later the Evolutionaries ensured humanity survived by destroying the previous race. Now they are ensuring the survival of the mutants by wiping out humanity.
The series was marketed as a meeting between the first and current generation of X-Men however it was not the case. It was two separate stories one set in the past and the other in the present. The concept of the Evolutionaries was interesting as well as bringing the Eternals into the mix to enhance the origin. Overall it was a well thought out concept and a new X-Men villain is introduced.
