E82: Witchblade #181 | Chrononauts #1 | Red One #1 Reviews [Devil Comics Entertainment]
Witchblade #181 sees both the
Darkness and the Witchblade battle it out. Jackie tells Sara this is his world
and his rules and he will release the Ancient Ones so the Darkness can suppress
the light. Aram the previous wielder of the Darkness arrives with a magic sword
from the first world and scroll to contain the Darkness. Sara severs Jackie’s
head and using the words from the scroll the Darkness vanishes. Aram promises
to take care of Jenny and Hope however he also plans to destroy the Witchblade
when the time is right.
Chrononauts #1 Doctors Corbin Quinn
and Danny Reilly develop a means of time travel for Nasa’s Temporal-Observational
Program. Quinn travels into the portal but gets off course due to a glitch and
lands in 1504 so Reilly goes after him. Reilly gets shot by invaders as the
issue ends. The comic series is going to be developed into a movie by
Universal. Overall the issue is light on plot but the Sean Murphy artwork is worth
the price of the issue.
Red
One #1
begins as Soviet spy Vera heads to the United States undercover to stop Pastor
Jacky Core from winning an election by creating a super hero to rival the current
one the Carpenter. The art and story are fantastic however the plot is a little
slow. Sometimes we get over 10 panels on a single page which is very rare these
days. A great first issue for a low price.

of ex-marines are running around robbing banks and killing innocent civilians. Special
Agent Poole recruits John Clayton who used to run and lead the ex-marines who
are currently committing the crimes. It is revealed the ex-marines killed a
special “Blackwater” group of soldiers and their lives were taken from them.
Now they are out for committing crimes because everything was taken from them. 39 Minutes has a well crafted story
however lacks the art and the execution. Writer William Harms is someone to

Morning Glories Vol. 5: Tests TPB [2013] by Nick Spencer
MORNING GLORIES VOLUME 5: TESTS TRADE
PAPERBACK
The first
season of Morning Glories ended on a confusing wimper with too many characters
and storylines converging into a real mess. Now Nick Spencer throws a surprise
at the beginning of Season 2 showing a Casey Blevins who has travelled to the
past and become her own teacher Ms. Clarkson. She encourages her younger self
to join Morning Glory Academy.
These
issues also gave us a discussion to what is happening. The children are
traveling through time while the MGA stays in place. Theories are running that
Ike is the headmaster however we finally find out who is the ghostly David
character. He is the son of Casey in another timeline. However the problem with
the series is that you get clues after someone explains what is happening. This
is the last time I would be reviewing the series.

Morning Glories Vol.4: Truants TPB [2013] by Nick Spencer
MORNING GLORIES VOLUME 4: TRUANTS TRADE
PAPERBACK
In the
past Georgina and Lara are sisters and a girl
named Vanessa who is sent from the future by an adult Lara. However Lara kills
Vanessa to prove her love to her father.
Four
years ago six students are called the Truants which include Guillaume, Vanessa,
Fortunato, Akiko, Ian, and Irina are sent to save their spiritual leader
Abraham. Two years ago these students went through the same trails as the
present students of the Morning Glory Academy. Irina shot the father of Georgina and Lara.
In the
present Irina shot Zoe and injures Hunter as the group joins Jun’s former
classmates. Jun’s former classmates lead Hunter to the tower where Jun’s
brother is conducting a sacrificial ceremony. Hunter is shot by Irina and runs
into a future Jade while the ghost monster named David kills Jun’s twin
brother.
Irina is
desperate to set things right and wants to kill the son of Abraham, Ike.
Sixteen years ago Abraham leaves his son and travels with Reginald. In the
present Reginald interrogates Ike and asks him where the students from Woodrun
are. Reginald threatens to kill Jade unless he kills his father. As soon as Ike
sees his father he shoots Reginald and the guards while pointing a gun at Jade
demanding an explanation from his father.
The first
season of Morning Glories ends with issue #25. The 25th issue had less answers than the past
24. Some mysteries should end while others continue to evolve the story. I
really wish I had not invested in the story in the first place. It seems all
the story does it prolong the series further without adequate explanation of
what has happened in the past. Nick
Spencer has a ridiculous story that is so convoluted that the first 25 issues
of the story is a mix mass of crap.
