DAREDEVIL: GUARDIAN DEVIL TRADE PAPERBACK
Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti of Event Comics helms Marvel’s imprint Marvel Knights with writer and director Kevin Smith. Karen Page leaves Matt Murdock while a teenage girl who knows Matt is Davedevil leaves her baby claiming she never had sex. Karen returns revealing that she apparently has HIV from her time as a pornstar. Foggy Nelson is accused of murdering a wealthy divorcee and fired by the law firm by his own mother. Ex-girlfriend Black Widow drops by for a visit to temporary baby sit the child who could be the Antichrist. Daredevil goes to the only person who could help his mother who is also a nun.

The assassin Bullseye is hired to retrieve the baby as Matt quits the law firm. Bullseye attacks the church where Matt left the baby ending up killing Karen Page and kidnapping the baby. Matt tracks down the person behind hiring Bullseye and ends up being Mysterio who has a brain tumor and has one year to live so he focuses on Daredevil. He reveals to Daredevil he made Karen Page believe she had HIV, framing his partner Foggy Nelson, and hiring Bullseye. Believing Daredevil would kill him and end his misery, Matt ridicules him and his plans so Mysterio kills himself much like Kraven the Hunter. Before Matt gives the baby up for adoption, he names her Karen. Matt reopens the practice with his partner Foggy Nelson who was recently released from prison from the money left from Karen’s life insurance policy.

Following the death of Mysterio, his character was seen several times afterwards however his identity was Daniel Berkhart. However after the recent events of Spider-Man: The Gauntlet, Mysterio is Quentin Beck returned after he faked his death during Guardian Devil. Writer Kevin Smith gives a poorly executed reasoning for Mysterio’s motivations. Quentin Beck’s brain tumor and death is not mentioned in current Marvel continuity. If Karen Page has HIV then wouldn’t Matt Murdock be HIV positive as well and be worried? This wasn’t explored enough even if the HIV tests given to Karen Page were false due to Mysterio’s plans. Continuity errors exist from the writer who is an avid fan of comics. Would be really nice if current writer Mark Waid gives an explanation to the fiasco of Guardian Devil sometime in the future.
