Dark
Horse
As Star
Wars license returns back to Marvel by the end of the year, Dark Horse declares
the Year of the Horse by launching a new Lone Wolf & Cub series with its
original writer. The story is a direct sequel taking place at the end of the
original series.
Marvel
Marvel
launches its next event Original Sin with a zero issue as Peter Parker returns
as the Amazing Spider-Man just in time for the upcoming film. The first arc
deals with a powered up Electro while Marvel launches new first issues as part
of their All-New Marvel NOW! The intensity of the new issues, as well as the
onslaught of first issues shows what it is like to be owned by Disney. The
bottom-line is all that matters as stories suffer.
Both Mark
Waid titles Indestructible Hulk and Daredevil are both relaunched as new first
issues. Nightcrawler, Elektra, Inhuman, and Doop get their own series and
limited series while the low numbering may encourage new readers to join
however at the expense of losing the overall storyline. One cannot follow Hulk
without knowing what has gone before and the same for Daredevil. Even Secret
Avengers has a new first issue with a new writer.
Marvel
seems to be completely out of control by hitting milestones without the proper
build up. Ultimate Spider-Man #200 is released as May solicitations prepares
for Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #1. Meanwhile the Ultimate Universe
releases two first issues including All-New Ultimates and Ultimate FF.
Marvel is
trying to bombard the market with new first issues where the characters take
next in their stories or new creative teams justify the changes. Either way it
is leaning towards consequences for Marvel as other publishers are not
following suit.
