The
first issue of Darth Vader begins
with him paying the price for his failure of unsuccessfully preventing the
Rebels from destroying the Death Star in Star
Wars Episode IV: The New Hope. Vader is now under Grand General Tagge who he
choked during Episode IV. He is sent to Tatooine to negotiate with Jabba the
Hut however he forces him to give him what he needs. Vader hires Boba Fett to
track down the X-Wing pilot who destroyed the Death Star and is also Obi-Wan’s
apprentice. Darth Vader #2 begins with Darth
Vader disabling and capturing a pirate ship which was after Imperial cargo. The
Empire uses the ship to track it back to base and destroy them.
The
third issue of Darth Vader was solicited with a cover of an Asian woman
with two black droids similar to C-3P0 and R2-D2. The cover alone pushed the
issue into a second printing. Darth Vader needs the help of rogue archaeologist
Doctor Aphra abroad the Ark Angel who has Triple Zero and BT-1 an assassin droid.
Vader needs private resources and troops with unquestioning loyalty so Aphra
offers to take him to a droid factory on Geonosis.

Darth Vader and Doctor Aphra head to Geonosis to build his own army against the
Emperor who has his own agenda. One of Vader’s hired bounty hunters returns
with a prisoner who has information on what the Emperor is plotting. The
information reveals the Emperor is creating replacements for Vader who plans to
destroy them all.

Darth Vader takes his army to find his replacements however the Emperor is
there. The Emperor wants a display of his technically enhanced warriors against
Vader.

Vader #6
After the display of powers between Darth Vader and his replacements, the
Emperor reveals he was disappointed with Vader on Mustafar and now wants him to
prove himself worthy. Meanwhile Boba Fett arrives with information concerning the
name of the pilot who destroyed the Death Star. The issue crosses over with the
finale of Star Wars #6 but here we are given how Vader felt knowing he
now has a son who he will use to overthrow the Emperor.
