Writer J. Michael Straczynski returns to Superman with the third volume of Earth One. We begin with Lex and Alexandra Luthor revealing Superman has a weakness to the spectrum of the red son. Clark discovers Lois kept a file on him and she created a Superman signal to summon him. She reveals the Security Council is worried about Superman as the consequences of the previous two volumes catches up with him. Zod arrives on Earth and exercises his powers as Lisa LaSalle discovers Clark is Superman.
Later Superman rescues people on a collapsing bridge which gets too much for him until Zod arrives to help. Lois later discovers the bridge collapsed due to Zod who reveals to Clark that he is his uncle. Zod meets with the Security Council and convinces them that Superman is a threat and he will be able to remove him.
Zod uses Kryptonite to stop Superman however he smashes Zod’s suit exposing him to the same radiation. Superman heads to his Fortress of Solitude to discover the truth about Zod. He discovers Zod is responsible for the destruction of Krypton. Superman heads to Metropolis to prevent Zod from attacking his friends. Superman takes a beating from Zod after Lex Luthor strips him of his powers. Lisa helps Superman during the battle until Luthor arrives and strips Zod of his powers. Zod impales Luthor and kills him as his wife Alexandra shoots Zod dead.
This is definitely one of the better Earth One titles as it builds on the previous two volumes. The ending is a better place as the supporting cast is defined and shadow of Lex hangs over the Man of Steel.
