BATWOMAN: ELEGY TRADE PAPERBACK
The original version of the Batwoman and her alter ego Kathy Kane was created in Detective Comics #233 (1956) as a love interest for Batman to disprove allegations of homosexuality due to the book Seduction of the Innocent (1954). A second Batwoman appeared following the events of Infinite Crisis (2005) within the maxi-series 52 (2006). Her alter ego is Kate Kane who is a lesbian coming from a military background. Kate Kane’s father is an ex-colonel and her mother was an officer who gave birth to her and her twin sister Beth.

A group of armed kidnappers took her mother, her sister, and herself as hostages before being rescued by allied soldiers. Her mother and sister died during the rescue attempt. However years later it was revealed her sister was missing and another girl died during the rescue attempt. Kate attends a military academy before being outed out and leaves the academy.

While attempting to survive a mugging with the assist of Batman, Kate discovers a new purpose in Gotham. Following two years of intense training with the aid of her ex-colonel father, Kate emerges as Batwoman and investigates the new leader of the Religion of Crime in Gotham who is the costumed villain named Alice after Alice Liddell from Alice in Wonderland. Alice plans on releasing a deadly virus over Gotham however Batwoman stops her and catches her before being thrown from the plane. Alice reveals she is Kate’s twin sister Beth who was killed years ago.
