SUPER 8 – 35MM SPECIAL #1

Peter Tomasi (War of the Green Lanterns) scripts the story provided by JJ Abrams and David Baronoff. Similar to Star Trek: Countdown which served as a prequel to JJ Abrams 2009 film Star Trek, Super 8 – 35mm Special provides the background story for his forthcoming 2011 film.

The story begins on November 1957 as the Russians discovered an alien spacecraft after the launch of Sputnik 1 so they launched Sputnik 2 which contained a dog to take pictures. The eventually pictures found their way to the United States curiosity of undercover O.S.S Agents. In 1958 a covert mission probe Explorer 3 was launched into space to determine the exact location of the alien spacecraft. Explorer 3 sent back detailed pictures however the aliens destroyed the probe leading the United States from a mission of discovery to a campaign of defense.

An underground research facility (Area 51) was built to conduct research on extra-terrestrial life and the spacecraft when the military finally brings them down. For next two months the plan has been set in motion to bring down the alien spacecraft with a nuclear missile.

The United States military launches a missile targeted at the alien spacecraft that will cause high altitude nuclear detonation causing damage and destruction of electrical systems in September. The military recovers the spacecraft and takes it back to Area 51. Nearly 20 years during the summer of 1979 a military Air Force train derails and the creature within breaks out. The military moves into the town to recapture the creature as dogs disappear and inexplicable events occur.
