ULTIMATUM TRADE PAPERBACK
Ultimatum was a poorly executed 5-issue
event that last for nine months between November 2008 and July 2009. The series
was brought about to distinguish the Ultimate Universe from the Marvel
Universe. Characters were killed and titles were cancelled to usher in a
relaunch of the Ultimate Universe titles. Writer Jeph Loeb seemed to use less
of his talents here than he did when he commanded World War Hulks. However artist David Finch brought his best to
this series before moving on to the Dark
Knight.
A tidal
wave engulfs New York City , Eastern
Europe including Latveria is frozen as the Watchers witness the
death of millions of people. Professor Charles Xavier unites the X-Men,
Fantastic Four, and the Ultimates to stop Magneto. The entire event was
manipulated by Doctor Doom who murdered Magneto’s daughter the Scarlet Witch.
Now Doctor Doom has bit off more than he can chew so he teams up with Reed
Richards and Nick Fury. The series provides shock value of killing heroes
randomly to artificially create a sense of dread.

The
series was followed by several epilogues collectively called Ultimate Requiem including Ultimatum: Spider-Man Requiem, Ultimatum: X-Men Requiem, and Ultimatum: Fantastic Four Requiem.
