Convergence
#1
begins as solicited a few months ago with the Earth 2 heroes arriving and Telos
releases the domes of the different worlds from across the DC Multiverse to
fight for their survival. The book and the ties-ins are more nostalgia than
anything more by bringing back characters and events from the 70s, 80’s, and
90s together. Too many characters with very little story and the book reminds me
of Countdown: Arena in 2007 which has a similar premise.
Convergence:
Superman #1
was something I was looking forward to with writer Dan Jurgens at the helm. The
writer that killed Superman sincerely brings back the Man of Steel back to his
Pre-Flashpoint characteristics. Lois and Clark have been trapped in Gotham City
for a year and Superman without his powers. Now Telos brings down the domes so
each of the worlds will fight for their survival and he restores the powers of
the heroes and villains of those worlds.
Superman heads to Gotham City in the Flashpoint Universe to unite the heroes together only to be ambushed by their Shazam, Cyborg, and Green Lantern. The Flashpoint Batman Thomas Wayne realizes his son Bruce is alive somewhere and he questions whether to fight the other heroes. The issue ends as the Flashpoint Superman searches and finds Lois who was killed in his universe. This is one of the best tie-ins as it measures the stakes of the overall story and like the other tie-ins, we get a brief history of the characters before Convergence.
